  1. Welcome to Microshaft!
  2.  
  3. This "Read Me" file contains the latest information 
  4. about running Microshaft to insure the best playing 
  5. experience possible.  Please refer to the printed "User 
  6. Guide" for Microshaft instructions. Also, please refer 
  7. to the printed "Online Guide" for details on configuring 
  8. Microshaft to launch your browser and going online to 
  9. the Microshaft web site.

  11. Note: you do not need the Microshaft CD-ROM to be in 
  12. your CD-ROM drive in order to play the leave-behind 
  13. Exploder game.

  15. System Requirements
  16. ====================
  17.  
  18. To run Microshaft, your Windows 95 PC must have at 
  19. least:
  20.  
  21.  - A 66 MHz 486 processor (Pentium processor 
  22.    highly recommended)
  23.  - 16 MB RAM for Windows 95    
  24.  - 20 MB free hard disk space
  25.  - A double speed CD-ROM (quad speed highly recommended)
  26.  - SVGA video (640x480 resolution with 256 colors)
  27.  - 8-bit sound
  28.  
  29. To connect to the Microshaft web site, you must also 
  30. have:
  31.     
  32.  - A 14.4 Kbps modem (28.8 Kbps recommended)
  33.  - Netscape Navigator version 3.0 or later, or Microsoft 
  34.    Internet Explorer 3.0 or later
  35.  - A subscription to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), 
  36.    or America Online 3.0 or later

  39. Troubleshooting
  40. ===============

  42. Video, Animation and Sound:
  43.  
  44. If you are experiencing problems with video, animation 
  45. or sound:
  46.  
  47. 1. Set your monitor graphics mode to display 640x480 
  48. resolution with 256 colors.
  49.  
  50. 2. Before running Microshaft, exit all running programs, 
  51. including those that run automatically when you start 
  52. Windows (especially screen savers and toolbars).
  53.  
  54. 3. Computers with slower components (66 MHz 486's, 60 or 
  55. 75 MHz Pentiums, older video display chips, 2X CD-ROM
  56. drives) may exhibit poor audio/video performance, long
  57. delays (loads) between screens, and sluggish game play.
  58.  
  59. NOTE: PinBill will take up to a minute to load on slow
  60. processors - but it's worth the wait!
  61.  
  62. Going Online:
  63.  
  64. If you have trouble visiting the Microshaft web site 
  65. from within the Microshaft program:
  66.  
  67. 1. Run Browser Setup to configure Microshaft to launch 
  68. your browser.
  69.  
  70. 2. Make sure that your browser and dialer are configured 
  71. to connect to your ISP, then try launching your browser 
  72. to a well-known web page BEFORE running Microshaft and 
  73. going online.  If you don't see the web page (make sure 
  74. the browser is not reading from a file on your hard 
  75. drive), call your ISP for support.  If you do see the 
  76. web page, try launching your browser to 
  77. http://www.parroty.com next. If you can't enter the 
  78. Parroty site, our web server may be busy or unavailable, 
  79. so please try again later.

  81. 3. You must run Browser Setup after installing or
  82. updating your Internet browser in order to use that
  83. browser to go online from Microshaft.
  84.  
  85. 4. Browser Setup will not find 16-bit versions of 
  86. Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Microsoft does not support 
  87. running 16-bit Internet Explorer under Windows 95.
  88.  
  89. Other:
  90.  
  91. 1. Windows 95 allows you to run multiple copies of 
  92. programs.  Make sure that you are running only one copy 
  93. of Microshaft.
  94.  
  95. 2. Uninstalling Microshaft will not delete the Parroty 
  96. and Microshaft folders, as well as any user created 
  97. files (PD.INI, *.USR). If you reinstall Microshaft, your 
  98. browser and user tracking information will remain 
  99. intact. To completely remove  all traces of Microshaft, 
  100. delete these folders and files manually.
  101.  
  102. 3. Be careful not to click your right mouse button while 
  103. running Microshaft.  Clicking the right mouse button may 
  104. disable the next left mouse button click.
  105.  
  106. 4. Be careful not to move the cursor to the extreme top 
  107. or bottom of the screen.  This action may activate any 
  108. toolbars you may use (such as the Microsoft Office 
  109. toolbar), and deactivate the Microshaft program.
